New Jet Mini on sale

Just an informational post for all who may be in the market for a lathe.

I've been searching around for the last week or so after deciding I NEED a lathe, pricing/comparing/etc. The best I had found was on Amazon, the Jet Mini for $247 with free shipping. Well, I went back on Amazon last night and they apparently have a new Jet mini coming out, identical to the current one, but with some added features. For sure it has an indexing headstock, and spindle locks, not sure what else. It says it ships in 4-8 weeks, and the price is $199 with free shipping! I darn near fell out of my chair. So, I just ordered it. Now the downside is that I won't have it for a while, but this is good for me as it gives me more time to shop for deals on all the other lathe stuff, tools, chuck, sharpening system, etc. Not to mention the fact that I just completely disassembled my workshop and am going to rebuild it from the ground up...

Anyways, if anyone is looking for a deal, that's a pretty good one! Here's the link - I hope this is allowed?? Sorry in advance if it's not.

Rich

Without the extension, what is the longest grip or handle it can turn? Is it 10 or 14 inches?

thanks

Ernie

Ernie, I have no idea - I would imagine it would have alot to do with what type of chuck you have on it. It wouldn't be as long as 14", but I'd bet it's more than 10". The 10" is the "swing over bed" dimension - in other words, it can turn objects about 10" in diameter....

That's a great price. Free shipping too.

So, after that - what other tools/parts do you guys recommend to go with that unit?

Thanks,
Mo

Keep in mind that do bore a hole in a 7" grip on a lathe, you will need enough bed length for the chuck and a drill chuck in the tail stock, the grip plus a 10" or so drill but. Dop yourself a favor and get the bed extension, you won't regret it! If you get Andy's mandrel, get the new threaded end w/collett they really make life easy!!!!!

If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!!
