I'm thinking about replacing the snake guides with SF on a SCIV 4 wt. Do any of you have suggestions for hiding the unsightly marks on the blank left from the wraps removed on the upper portion of the snake guides (this is a matte blank). Maybe this just isn't such a good idea, but I like the performance of the SF guides and the fewer thread wraps on the blank. I wish I would have used SF guides in the first place.
thanks, Chris Re: converting rod from snakes to single foot

If it was me, I wouldn't bother with doing it. IMHO there isn't really a difference in performance between the two, I think your just convincing yourself of that because you like the look of single foot better...LOL Maybe a tiny bit because of a lil' less weight cuz of less wraps, but not enough to warrent ruining some god wraps and possibley having some rod rash left over. Ive tried to do similar before and what I did was heated the left over finish and scrape it off with a credit card, that rub real hard with goo gone, clean with alcohol. It looked decent, but not perfect.

Don't try it with the SCIV, assuming it is the green matte finish. It's extremely fragile finish and no matter what you do, you WILL damage it. Scott Kinney The Longest Cast Fly Rods [www.thelongestcast.com] Re: converting rod from snakes to single foot

thanks guys. thanks kind of what I thought. not really worth it b/c I don't want to end up making a perfectly good rod look bad. I appreciate the input.
