Trying to find a good 1" belt sander for doing guide feet. Trouble is I can only
find 120 grit belts, when I want 220 grit or finer. any ideas for a source Re: 1" belt sanders

Check out Lee Valley. They have a very decent 1" belt sander. I use one from Grizzly that I modified the platen on to make it more usefull for sharpening. Lee Valley has normal 1" belts up to 320 grit and some speciality belts at 1000 grit. You could also try Klingspor for belts, they tend to carry everything. Re: 1" belt sanders

Most good woodworking stores or catalogs will carry a wide assortment of belts in various grit sizes. Klingspor would almost surely have anything you need in that regard.
Have you tried a 220 grit belt for sanding the guide feet? Sounds a bit too fine to me. I use a 110 and it seems about right. Removes metal quickly without generating too much heat. Unless you have a long belt, the 220 may require enough sanding that the heat builds a bit. Can't say for sure, but something to consider if you haven't yet tried that grit. ............ I get mine off of @#$%&. Typically someone has belts and discs in lots of different grits and you don't need to purchase a case of them.
