Another New Guy

Hello everyone,
Just signed up and will be cruising the search and Go to features and gallery til I go crosseyed.

A friend of mine just gave me a 8ft Van Staal blank that I am going to try and turn into a fishing pole over the next couple months. My first purchase is going to be a book or two and maybe a kit to get me going. I have a Rotisserie motor that I will use for turning.

Seems like a good site and hope I can contribute at some point.

V/R,
Scott Mac

Hi Scott

Welcome to the board. You will find a great database of knowledge here with many people willing to offer help.

However before you turn that blank into a pole you might want to consider turning it into a fishing rod.

No one here builds poles.

As for books I would suggest getting Tom Kirkhams book. It is awesome and you will use it alot. It can be purchased from one of the vendors to the left

Have fun and welcome again to the addiction.

Regards

Scott Ryan

Rodbuilding guide by Tom Kirkman will be the best $15 you will ever spend in this addiction.

I agree with Tom's book. Every time I re-read it I learn something new. It is one of the best rodbuilding investments I have made.

This is an addiction that seems to grow without bounds.

Today during lunch I made a wooden wrapper. I had some Oak laying around the shop and thought it would make a sturdy wrapper. Took about an hour b/c I screwed up on the router.

From some of the online catalogs I have browsed through it looks like I save about $30-50 for one of these things. I have to figure out how to post a pics and will share it .
