I've never been totally satisfied with my quality of photos of guide wraps or, for that matter, the quality of my guide wraps but that's another story. I found this article at [strobist.blogspot.com] a while ago and felt like playing with it this evening. It seemed like all my RB photos had harsh lighting and/or shadows. Some had a distracting background or excessive glare. I'd solve one problem and another problem would wreck the pic.
The link above explains building a simple light box out of card board and tissue paper to diffuse light. My light source was a swing arm light from my desk and the flash was turned off. There are too many ways to experiment to cover them all here but I played with the angle of placing the rod to eliminate glare and manual camera settings to adjust depth of field. You could easily change the color of the background paper to enhance the subject. One drawback is that you'll see "flaws" that would never be seen otherwise. In my limited testing tonight I can see immediate improvement of my photos now I need to work on making that perfect wrap that's covered with a perfect application of epoxy. Or say to heck with it and go catch fish. Mike Re: Macro photography
