I'm a E coast guy. I've been asked to build a rod for a friend's husband who Trout fishes the Mammoth lakes region of CA with spinning gear from a float tube. Because of some personal circumstances I can't ask him what he likes to fish. I'm hoping some of you who know the fishery and the "best" techniques could provide some suggestions. Thanks, Steve Re: Blank for Spin Fishing Mammoth Lake CA

Most of what he's going to get in to (95%) is Rainbows under 1lb., but they can go as large as 4lbs. on the far end of the scale. Most cast Needlefish, Mepps Spinners & Roostertails in the 1/16 - 1/8oz range. 2-4lb line on a 6-6" spinning blank is probably the most popular set-up. Same holds true for the surrounding Lakes & Streams. Mark Griffin [] C&M Custom Tackle San Dimas, California Re: Blank for Spin Fishing Mammoth Lake CA

My favorite Sierra Lakes cast/trolling blank for trout and kokanee is the G Loomis S842-2. The S782 came later and I haven't used one, but I'm told they are also a fine blank. Re: Blank for Spin Fishing Mammoth Lake CA

under 1 lb? i was always under the impression there were much bigger fish, including alpers planted in the area (which includes the june lake loop lakes and crowley), although the small streams would hold smaller fish of course. the mammoth lakes region is very very big on recreation, from fishing, rock climbing, mountain biking and hiking in the summer to a major ski resort in winter. the town of mammoth has a sporting goods specialty shop on every corner. conduct a search for sources and ask them.
you said spinning, but a fly shop could help you too: [www.thetroutfitter.com] [www.thetroutfly.com] [www.mammothsecrets.com] give a call, see what these places might recommend. and good luck. eric fresno, ca. Re: Blank for Spin Fishing Mammoth Lake CA

I haven't seen an Alpers plant there (Lake Mary, Lake George, etc...) in a while. Mostly in the June Loop & Bridgeport in recent years, though I've heard of plants at Hot Creek & Convict. Mark Griffin [] C&M Custom Tackle San Dimas, California Re: Blank for Spin Fishing Mammoth Lake CA

Thanks guys. Sounds like a 6' 6" fast action in 2 power is what I'm looking for. This may be a chance to try out one of Andy Dears CTS.
Thanks again Steve Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
