This year is almost over and I have had a great time during my first year of retirement. I have done some weaving and marbeling and made several fly rods along with a couple of standup rods, popping rods, spinning rods, and surf rods. I have had a lot of help from fellow rodbuilders such as Raymond Adams, Putter, Mike Barkley, Jim Upton, Doc Ski and a little consulting with Tom Kirkman. As I have stated before, I don't sell rods anymore but if some of my fishing buddies or relatives want a rod, I will throw in the labor for free to keep me busy. Andy Dear has kept me well supplied with cork and blanks. Usually when my interest in rod building is at an ebb I will get a call from Andy about a new rod blank that he just got in. So far I have not been disppointed. Thanks all for a good year and Andy, I am still going to build on one of those fast CTS fly rod blanks.

Mike,

Before I retired, I thought that I would rather be out fishing everyday. Now, into my 14th month of retirement, I don't seem to be able to get out there. What has this rod building thing done to me......?

Sounds like you are weathering retirement ok. I retired in June of this year it has been 25 years since i built a rod and if it was not for rod building i would have gone nuts. I love to golf and fish but can't seem to get out for wanting to wrap. I am in Oklahoma wish I was closer to you guys so i could attend shows and or meetings.
I don't know any of you but everyone seems very helpful.
My 2 cents
Paul
