I need some suggestions for guides on a tilefish rod. I was thinking of Fuji BHNLG's. But are they durable enough to be fished with #80 braid? The blank is a Seeker JB80XH. This rod is sure to see some major abuse so I'm looking for strength and durability in the guides. Thanks for your help! Re: guides for tilefish rod

The HN frames are pretty tough critters. More than likely they are all you'll need. Although they 'may' be a little light for 60-80# line. I'm assuming you'll be using something in that range. BUT if you spiral wrap them, I'm sure they'll be just fine.
Most any ceramic ring these days will stand the test of time with braided line. I wouldn't hessitate to use them. Jay Re: guides for tilefish rod

TILEFISH - Are you using an Electric Reel or Human Winch?
Either way - Any brand of FOLDED-FRAME HD ceramic ring guides. If you Spiral Wrap, consider mounting the 2-legs toward the rod tip, and the ring-wall facing toward the reel. That way if you fall forward in a heaving sea, (before you lay the foregrip on the rail or before you lock your knees under the gunwale), if the rod hits the gunwale or railing, it will deflect the rod off the impact, rather than smash the guide ring. This should also prevent the rod butt from ramming into you. B)- ... IMO, ... -Cliff Hall, FL-USA. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
