Has anyone tried the Rainshadow trolling blanks? Good lengths, 2 pieces for limited storage applications. Thinking of building a few, just looking to hear how everyone likes them. Thanks Re: Rainshadow Trolling Blanks??

Eric,
Are you talking about salmon trolling/downrigger blanks? Re: Rainshadow Trolling Blanks??

Yep, I am looking at the Downrigger/Trolling blanks. First time I have seen them. I'll be mostly pulling planer boards or running leadcore, some crankbaits only as well. I've got several telescoping rods right now, but I relly like the 2 piece rods. Rod storage in my current boat is poor, so when I have lots of people along it gets tough to keep rods safe. With tow piece rods I can wrap them up and get them out of the way. The 8'6" rods look good for all around use, the M action would probably be the best crank uller while the MH would probably be the better lead/planer rod. The 10' could be nice for getting a good flatline/longline setup with lead (putting shorter rods inside). How long have these blanks been out?? Re: Rainshadow Trolling Blanks??

Eric,
The DR series blanks are a durable composite design that have the moderate action you are looking for in a downrigger/trolling blank. At the NW rodbuilders event, I talked this over with Karry Batson and this was his recommendation. We are in the middle of salmon trolling season at the mouth of the columbia where we use either divers or downriggers and need a moderate action rod with some backbone left over. The new catalog has replaced these with the RDR series. Great blanks, awesome value. Should fit your application well. I've built a couple and have more on order. I'm having a hard time finding time to build and fish. The damn day job gets in my way. Take care, Terry Re: Rainshadow Trolling Blanks??

New RDR blanks were designed for your area by Mike Thorson. Mike spent a ton of time fishing over there so should be a good match. FYI The RDR100H was designed as a planer board blank so slightly stiffer than the norm. All the new RDR's have the traditional moderate to slow action. The old DR's were turned into the new BP series targeting North West Salmon fishing.
