I have a Sabre 196 8ft xl blank. My brother and I are in debate over the fact of using A sized thread verses C thread. My question is will the extra weight of the C thread affect the action of the blank, especially in th tip section. I know guide and epoxy selection will also effect this also. Re: Thread weight

You can see for yourself the RELATIVE WEIGHTS of
Gudebrod Thread by referring to this Table. -CMH. TITLE: "Gudebrod Thread Table: [Sat July 16, 2005] Strength & Weight of Guide Wraps for Size 2/0 - E" For general reference, a Table of TENSILE STRENGTHS, Calculated WRAP STRENGTHS and Calculated WRAP WEIGHTS of UNFINISHED Gudebrod Thread Wraps for Sizes 2/0-E, for Silk, Regular Nylon, NCP and HT Metallics. Assumes a thread wrap bandwidth of 1 cm, around a rod blank of circumference of 1 cm (OD = 1/Pi = 3.18 mm), is available at: [www.rodbuilding.org] Calculated values, not direct "in-situ" measurements. -Cliff Hall, Gainesville, FL-USA Re: Thread weight

John on this specific rod the thread weight will have little or now effect. The weight issue has greater importance in freshwater graphite and also fly rods. This blank is a saltwater bait stick and unless you are using SS guides, the weight problem is almost effectless(dont know if that is a wood) Re: Thread weight

Weight doesn't affect action - action is where the rod or blank initially flexes. Weight does indeed affect response and recovery (sometimes referred to as "speed"). In your case however, the weight difference would be minimal, although you have to consider that your finish coating will be thicker to cover the C size thread so there will be more weight added than you might realize.
Still, for the type blank you have and the power and weight it already possesses, I doubt you'd know the difference and in fact, C would probably be a better choice anyway just for the additional durability against abrasion it would offer. ......... Re: Thread weight

Hi there,
I have just finished a few weeks ago an RX7 7'9 #3 with following results: Thread (Gudebrod "A"): 0,3g Epoxy coating: 0,6g (lowbuild, 3 coatings) Just to cope with the a.m. data: > tip top with small (4mm wide) conversion wrapping (=1 wrapping) > 8pcs. sf snake guides (=8 wrappings) > 1 Stripping guide (=2 wrappings) > 1 Hookkeeper (=2 wrappings) RGDS, Ole N.B.: I dropped once for curiosity an empty gudebrod 100yds spool on a scale, followed by a full, fresh one. Difference in weight were 2,4g if I remember correct. Please do not ask me for humidity at that time in the room...... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
