Can someone recommend a tool that can put a really straight edge on the bevel of the front end of a cork handle, when turning?

I have used sandpaper folded over a popsicle stick and I have used some "standing sticks" that a really nice guy in Louisiana invented - sandpaper glued on hard plastic. However, I am not always happy with the "sharpness" of the edge these approaches provide. I am thinking some sort of a file - but what, which, where?

If you are talking about the surface that meets the reel seat or foregrip, I use a small parting tool to make the edges clean and crisp. It works well for me.

Woodcraft has the parting tools and they have many choices. You can find any size at the store but for general use look at the 1/8" size it's the most versatile. Mark

Follow the instructions in the RodMaker article on turning grips and you'll be okay. A "four-way" tool, which includes a common wood rasp, can be set on the tool rest and pushed into the cork from the end to create a perfectly flat face. Or, you can set it on edge and cut a bevel at any degree you wish. Takes seconds at most.
