Well Ed if you are talking about a kite rod like the ones used on Long Range Tuna Boats out of San Diego. You are looking at an 8' to 8 1/2' heavy rod. Something like a rock cod rod. Large ringed guides which will facilitate the parts going through the guides when you are done at the end of the day. All it really does is fly the kite. Not really used for fighting the fish, just to deliver the bait to the area you want. Hope that helps. Drop me a line if you want more scoop on this type rod.

That is the type of rod I was talking about, most that I have seen have been about 4' in length. I know it's not used for fighting a fish, but wondering how heavy of blank, also the size of the ring on the tip as he was talking about stops that attached to the line to allow you to deploy multiple baits on 1 kite line.

Thanks
Ed

Often the clips themselves are attached to the ling with snap swivels and removed as you reel in the line at the end of the day so all you need is guides large enough to get the snap swivels in, probably somewhere in the 14 to 20 range. On the Boats I have fished they preferred longer rods (at least a CalStar 775 7 1/2') because it made it easier to get the kite up in the clean air above the wheel house and manipulate it when putting new baits out from the upper deck. I think they were using 60# Spectra fishing line to actually fly the kite. I think we used a 6/0 Senator.

Where are they using the Kite. I do alot of kite fishing and can probably help you out if I could get some more info. I have 2 kite set ups with electric reels. The tip size on my rods is at least a 28. short rods probably 3.5'. We deploy them from our riggers and use them live bait fishing or trolling for tuna out of NC.
