I have done a lot fo referbishes on rods and have refinished the blanks with a urithane based coating. They all come out great and I have has not problems. Lamiglas has the polished graphite finish. Do they put any kind of coating over the polished graphite?
Thanks, David Banaka Re: Polished Graphite?

CYS does the same thing....no finish at all. It's bare carbon sanded very fine then buffed....very nice neutral finish.

I am buiding a lot of rods on the "polished" blanks. I love the effect of the surface. It looks good with most any color thread. When the rods are completed I wipe them down with a piece of cheesecloth with West Marine Star Brite Boat Polish with Teflon. You will remove a small amount of the residual from the polishing process and end up with a very nice blank. I like them because they do not have a finish on them to scratch. They look good after a long bout of heavy use.
I have some flexible sanding sticks with 1500 polishing grit for wet sanding. I have used these to strip the finish from a few older blanks that have come in for repair and clean up. I used them on badly scratched blanks. I would not try to manually do this with no rod wrapper to turn the rod at high speed. I find it easier and basically looks better to polish out the scratches than to try and cover them up. Gon Fishn Edited 4 time(s). Last edit at 07/10/2006 03:05PM by Bill Stevens.
