Looking for experience:
Fast action Seeker Tuna Stick - pretty good bend in tip section when loaded Have built three rods for customer with HT Electra Red Size A 9326 underwraps. This is the holographic looking thread. Considerable area of the underwrap is exposed with inlays. Customer wants matching rod in lighter action. This thread has been discontinued and all efforts to locate more have failed. Lance Dupree with Swampland had a full spool of the D in the same thread. Not really worried about the surface appearance of the larger thread. The change is slight. Will the D size thread stay in place and not gap during heavy use. I have seen metallics gap on smaller blanks, in the ramp area of guide foot frame, even if they were well packed. Has anyone built heavy rods and underwrapped with D size thread. Were there any problems? Thanks Re: ?? Underwrap Thread

What weight line are you building this rod for and what thread are you going to use to wrap the guide on with. You shouldn't have any problem using the HT for the underwrap but I would apply finish or Permaglos to it before doing the guide wraps. If the rod is really light you could also do some false underwraps that would show only in the exposed areas. You might also do your underwraps in "A" Black and use the HT to wrap the guide and trim bands. Same color scheme but different and maybe faster. Re: ?? Underwrap Thread

Jim thanks for your reply: Big stand up tuna stick. Seeker XXH. Double D overwrap on guides. All I am really worried about is if the D diameter will tend to separate and gap in the area of the fast flex of the blank where the underwrap and inlays is exposed with no overwrap on top. Have you underwrapped with D metallic of any kind? I have had the separation I note on inshore popping rods with heavy use. Re: ?? Underwrap Thread

Bill; No I always underwrap with "A" but where are you getting a separation? Under the guide between the feet or at the ends? I see no reason for you to get any kind of gap anywhere if you have packed your threads well enough. Re: ?? Underwrap Thread

Reading bill post Bill's concern is gapping of the overwraps due to his using D thread BECAUSE the thread he is using is not longer avail in A and is having to use D because that is all he found...........
Glad your were able to find some of the obsolete thread to do another rod. I have had to use D thread on an underwrap, then double overwrapped as you're doing. On this particular Seeker standup not only has the finish not cracked over the guide wraps, but there is not sign of thread separation/gapping anywhere on any of the guides. Lou Re: ??
