I am fixing a rod that the guides were not put in the right place originally. Is there a way to remove the old epoxy/thread markings from where the guide was originally placed so that it is not noticeable? Re: Moving guides

From a distance you can sometimes, with a close inspection I have always noticed where the originals were unless I refinish the blank. There is usually a slight ring where the guide wrap epoxy stopped. If the blank was built with no color preserver than it's much easier to see the whole wrap later. Light scotchbriting of a gloss finish and a re-application of finish works wonders. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
