Does anyone have any suggestions for Halibut rod guide sizing and spacing? I live in Alaska and have bought a saltwater boat of course I am only going to outfit it with custom rods, but I am unsure of guide sizing and spacing for halibut rods. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I am planning on blanks in the 60-80 pound range. Re: Halibut Rod Recipes

Hey Kirk,
I tried to email you but got it back but the email got returned. I make lots of Halibut rods. I need a little more info. I use the static guide testing on all my rods now and I also spiral wrap all my halibut rods. What size and length rods do you plan to use? What reel do you plan to use? Do you want all rollers or just the tip top to be a roller? Email me this and we will get you started. Here's a successful combination that I have used on an Alaskan Halibut rod! It uses a Seeker CTSF63XXH, an 80#, 6'3" blank, 14" rear handle, an aluminum PackBay Channel Lock seat, 14" forgrip and a set of All American Roller Guides @#$%& Acid Roller Guides with a, LRSG10 bumper guide.
The guy that bought it uses a Shimano TLD30II loaded with 130# spectra. Hook'em brah! Re: Halibut Rod Recipes

Big John,
I'd love a copy of your e-mail advise as well please, as halibut rods are what I want to build next! Thanks, Bruce Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
