Just finished testing the "Easy Wrap Starting" technique in RMM 9-2. It works like a charm!!!
But, how come I'm so dumb I couldn't figure that out for myself?

Don't feel bad. I have watched literally hundreds of new rod builders go through the frustration of trying to get their wraps started and it nearly always comes down to the very same mistake.

Glad it did the trick for you. It's hard to describe in words and even the photos are little hard to stage to show the start. But again, glad you got it and won't need to do any modifications to your lathe after all.

I second Dan's opinion. Rod Maker Magazine is invaluable to me as a beginner, and the photos and work an inspiration.
