I am new to rod building, so what is the common size thread you use on rod wrapping for guides and decorating? What do you use size E and EE for? Thanks, Dave Re: Thread size?

What type of rods are you building? I would not use that size for anything but heavy salt water rods. I stick mostly with size A. I build mostly freash water bass rods. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/09/2006 08:22AM by Steve Gardner. Re: Thread size?

I only bass fish and thought that I would start repairing my own rods and try building some.
Thanks for the info. Dave Re: Thread size?

Size "A" and 40wt.
Sometimes "C" on salt water rods. The smaller size thread is better looking but the larger sizes add durability. All depends on what you are trying to achieve. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Thread size?

Dave Size A thread is suitable for your needs. Although you can use C or D if you wish or in some cases(like us old men) you need something that is a bit easier to see. I have used E in the past for some of the backround threads of my weaving. If you use underwraps it is alway nice to use A on the bottom so it is easier to wrap larger thread on top of it. On bass rods I am not sure you will choose to do underwraps. Re: Thread size?

I really do appreciate all the feedback. I should have asked questions before a bought the 9 rolls of E and EE thread. Anybody needing any thread in these sizes let me know. Thanks again, Dave Re: Thread size?

For freshwater use, E makes pretty good anchor rope. lol. Seriously, on your average bass rod, E looks like amateur night, IMO. With exception of Trimar, I use A exlusively, and I don't like using Trimar that much. It's just too big. Re: Thread size?

Hi Dave,
I would suggest you hold on to that thread! Do some practice wraps with it. It will help you learn. Besides, if and when you learn about thread art you may find you have a need for it. A rod builder or repair person can not have to much thread! Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Thread size?
