at the april meeting in woodland you and jim mick where talking about
spiral wraps for any rod when you do not have a reel. Could you please
give me your views on this. The rod is a 81/2 ft steelhead blank, casting.
you seemed to have a generic set for this situation

Vaughn,
Just set up the rod as per the static guide placment article, when your done turn all the guides and tip top, except the stripping guide, to the bottom of the rod. Get a #7 or #8 guide and place it at 90 degrees on the side the reel's handle will be on exactly 1/2 the distance between the stripper and the next guide. Test cast to make sure it casts well. Wrap it. Fish it. Usually you see low profile bass style reels anymore, or the Abu round reels, either will work with this setup.

Hi, folks.... it's page 16: Volume 8, number 2. I've made only one modification to the format: I place the tip and guides 180 degrees out of phase
from the **start**, so I only need to move the _butt guide_, instead of all the ones above it. (I don't see too well, with these bifocal glasses, and struggle with the alignment process, so why do it twice) ....
