Is it my imagination, or did St. Croix at one time offer a SC III musky blank with the telescoping handle? Anyone have suggestions for blank alternatives. Looking for something 7'6" with the telescoping handle. Thanks for the help. Re: Looking for a Musky blank.

Eric,
Can it be 2 piece instead? Re: Looking for a Musky blank.

Spencer,
A 2-piece would be plan B. Re: Looking for a Musky blank.

Eric McCalla:
Since you require a ferrule on this 7'6" rod for transportability issues; And since you prefer a telescoping handle, rather than a standard-ferrule 2-piece rod; And since you don't mention how stout a Musky Rod, or what taper, you would prefer; Let me offer a "PLAN (C); PLAN (D); and PLAN (E)": PLAN C: These are listed as FLIPPIN' STICKS - I only listed the heaviest Line & Lure Rating in these 2 series. These are the HEAVIEST rod blanks that Batson offers in a TELESCOPING ferrule (1-T) rod blank: BATSON RainShadow Flipp'n Stick Blanks ( IFT / FT ) [FishSticks4U.com] IFT905 ... 7'6" ... 1-T (Tel.) ... RX7-Graphite ... Matte Clear 10-25lb. ... 1/4 -- 1-1/2oz. ... 0.635" ... 7.0 / 64ths ... Mod-Fast ... Hvy ... 3.25oz. ... $75.00 - Add [FS4U] IFT905G ... Olive Green - Close Out 30% off ... $52.50 [FS4U] FT905 ... 7'6" ... 1-T (Tel.) ... RX6-Graphite ... Clear Gloss 10-25lb. ... 1/4 -- 1-1/2oz. ... 0.585" ... 6.5 / 64ths ... Mod-Fast ... Med-Hvy ... 3.20oz. ... $41.47 - Add [FS4U] PLAN D: Judiciously TRIM one of these Flippin' Sticks (mostly from the TIP) to a power and action (line & lure rating) that suites your preferences. PLAN E: Judiciously TRIM a Musky 1-piece Rod (mostly from the butt end) to a length that you can transport. BATSON RainShadow Musky / Salt-Water Blanks (IMU / XMU) - ALL of these IMU's or XMU's are FAST-TAPER, 1-piece rod blanks: [FishSticks4U.com] A "Complete Guide to Building Musky Rods" is in RMM-7(3). Quite a long list of Recommendations for specific Model #s for Musky Rod Blanks is in that Article. Other than that, your fingers may be doing some more walking thru the Sponsor's Catalogs and Websites. Date: May 07, 2006 03:28PM Shikari makes 1 telescoping handle blank, although probably not what you are looking for. Model PFS-764X. It's a Bass Flipping blank and is probably a bit to light for Musky. Just wanted to mention it in case. Tica makes some handle telescoping Musky rods (pre-made), 60M modulus blanks on them. We have got 7'6, 8'0, 8'6. They are samples that ran through the dealer shows. Unless you are just looking for the rod yourself, you could probably do a nice job stripping everything off the blank and working with it. Take the 8'6 in so you can cut off some off the butt if needed. Not too much to lose, as the price is less than $50 for a 60M modulus blank. A new rod in this series sells for $95. To boot it's already got Fuji Hardloy guides on it , A fuji reel seat, and a Fuji Nitride Tip. Handle is cork. Just an idea. Plan X?
