Ball Bearings for epoxy mixer

After seeing several posts about folks trying to find epoxy mixer ball bearings I decided to post a good source for all different sizes.

McMaster-Carr in Atlanta and I think Chicago (Atlanta phone #404-346-7000). Their web site should be easy to find.

They have 302 stainless steel ball bearings in any size you need and they are loose.

I found the 3/4 bearings worked the best as they have enough weight to stay in the bottom of the cup as it turns. It mixes the epoxy better if it does not rotate with the cup.

Also the Flex Coat 6 rpm motor with the aluminum bracket and wooden base makes a great mixer. You just have to bend the bracket at about 45 degrees and glue a cup in the chuck after removing the rubber rod holder. Works like a charm.

Larry - You found the 3/4 inch size SS balls to work for your motor speed and epoxy's viscosity. ... Do you know, Larry, for those fishing rod builders who also have access to hunter's muzzle-loading supplies, do any of the largest ball loads also make suitable mixing balls for a rotating epoxy mixer? Thanks in advance, ... -Cliff Hall+++

I use the 50 cal. round lead balls...works great and really cheap if you forget to clean one up.

About 4 years ago I bought 1/4, 3/8 1nd 1/2" ball bearings at Lowes. After running many test batches with them, I settled on using a 1/4" bearing (which gets the edges of the cup very well) along with a 1/2" (to do most of the mixing). Peroidcally I still let the remaining expoxy sit in the mixing cup for a few days and pop it out to make sure the batch got completely mixed. It works well.
