I decided I couldn't resist and took advantage of the Blank Liquidation sale at Mudhole....
I picked up a Lami saltwater CGX8XH 6'6" 1 piece with a line weight of 40lbs. I guess this blank is a composite of graphite and fiberglass.....if I'm wrong let me know! Does anyone know how this blank was ment to be used ? Would it make a decent porgy and or blackfish rod for a boat? I've only built surf rods in the past. I'm at a loss...open to all suggestions!! Thank YOU -e Re: Rod Blank Usage?

Hiya, Eric - Just so you are not in limbo too long, here goes:
"Lami Salt Water CGX8XH 6'6" 1 piece with a line weight of 40lbs" "Would it make a decent porgy and or blackfish rod for a boat?" YES. Maybe even codfishing, - I can't look it up right now for more specs. Maybe Lynn Huffman or Billy Vivona has used this one. BV40 is a Tog-Master, but he seems to be stuck on GUSA nowadays. Gotta run, -Cliff Hall+++ Re: Rod Blank Usage?

"LamiGlas Salt Water CGX8XH 6'6" 1 piece, line weight of 40lbs"
[The CORRECT Model# is Lamiglas CGX-78-XH.] Lamiglas Saltwater Rod Blanks [shop.mudhole.com] Lamiglas Saltwater Rod Blanks: CGX-78-XH CGX-78-XH ... 6'6" ... 1-pc ... Material: UNKNOWN ... METALLIC BLUE Style: UNKNOWN ... Taper: UNKNOWN ..... Power: XH Lure Rating: UNKNOWN ..... Line Rating: 40 lb. 0.740" ... 8.0 / 64ths ... Blank Weight: UNKNOWN ... [$86 --> $43] ERIC - You can get a feel for the Lure-Rating and a sense of the the taper-action yourself by hanging a few sinkers off the rod tip. That should soon give you a clue about if it'll cast or if it's just a bottom boom for stop & drop, yank & crank party boat fishing. The Mud-Hole website write-up on all these discontinued Lamiglas rod blanks said that the Model Years were from 2001 - 2004. When I checked the LamiGlas website, I could not find any CGX Series. [I can't down-load 4MB of *.PDF LG-Catalog on my molasses dial-up.] Maybe some older print versions (hard-copy or *.PDF) of the M-H Catalog, or other Dealers, from 2001-2004 have a full specs list. But, at this stage, there is nothing critical to the missing information that should hinder your project. Just flex and load the rod blank yourself and judge for yourself how stout it is. Let it TALK to you. Sounds like you can hold bottom with 6 oz of lead, and still lift it with authority to set the hook and turn a fish-head your way. No? Eric - If you build it for the upper end of strength, you may wanna try some of those folded-frame Turbo-style guides. The ForeCast ST Series comes in a nice black frame and a beautiful BLUE TiOx-PVD Zirconium Guide Ring. They are very rugged (because of the arched legs) AND flexible (because of the high hinge for bending). Look around at www.FishSticks4U.com for more. With an "XH" Power-rating in an already heavy "SaltWater" Series, and with a known Line-Rating of 40#, there ain't much dainty about it. It sounds like this rod is built to be a great MEAT stick and fill the ice box with whatever you're after. At 6'6" and XH, it sounds like a nice GROUPER Rod for bait, too. I know the allure of the Metallic Blue color put you over the edge, and robbed you of all reason(s for not getting it). I remember that Photo-Post you did last year, which had BLUE (or purple?) everywhere. REALLY nice, BTW. ... Have fun with it, Eric. Cliff: "I know the allure of the Metallic Blue color put you over the edge, and robbed you of all reason(s for not getting it)."
Read me like an open book! ;^) I wanted (but wasn't going to get) the slightly heavier blank listed just below, with a line weight of 50lb . However, when I read those words "metallic blue" I must of had a brain seizuer or something cause , the next thing I remember was getting an email confirming my order for a metallic blue ,40lb line wt. Lami blank!!! Now I know for a fact I'm a sick puppy. Re: Rod Blank Usage?

The Lamiglas CGX blanks were the G500 Saltwater/Musky/Heavy Freshwater blanks in the Lamiglas line in 2001 at least. There are only 2 XH blanks in the line I see the 78XH 6 ft 6 in., rated for 20-30 lb line, 7 1/2 tip, .745 butt, rated for 1 to 5 oz lure weight. The other the 96XH 8 ft 7 tip, .645 butt, 30 lb line, 3/4 to 3 1/4 oz lure weight. Re: Rod Blank Usage?

Spencer - Thanks for diggin deep and coming up with all the choice info surrounding this LamiGlas CGX-78-XH. It sounds to me like you have Eric's blank pegged.
The slght discrepancy between Spencer's data and the Vendors (M-H) Listing may be due to MudHole not having the LG specs available any more from 2001, and the data coming from one rod on which M-H measured the tip size and Butt OD. But they had to guestimate the Line Rating, and just guessed a little high. -Cliff Hall+++ Lamiglas Saltwater Rod Blanks: CGX-78-XH Lamiglas CGX 2001 Rod Blanks, G500 Saltwater / Musky / Heavy Freshwater Rod Blanks CGX-78-XH ... 6'6" ... 1-pc ...
