hello everyone,
i was wondering if anyone ever used a light coat of perma gloss on burl cork handles to bring out the full color of the cork? i have read that some builders apply a light coat of tru oil on burl cork to bring out the color, and tru oil is gun stock/ wood finish. please let me know what you all think. also i was wondering where i can buy some of the small wheels with the rubber outer ring used on rod wrappers/holders? thanks for the help. david daniels. as far as the rollers go you can go to a hardware store and get storm door rollers and they can make you some o rings to fit them Re: 2 part question

You could certainly use Permagloss on your cork but it will create a bit of a harder surface that you may or may not desire. A coat of cork seal will also bring the figure and color up a bit but won't make the surface quite as hard. Just depends on what look you're after.

David,
If it's for something you're making rather than replacement parts, Joe's right... Screen door rollers from the hardware dept. and o-rings from the plumbing dept. We've got the same ball bearing wheels/o-rings that you've got on your wrapper if you strike out at the HDWE store. Where ya been?! It's easy to make O-rings if you're willing to measure dimensions (width & height) required, order the necessary O-ring material, cut the material to size and glue the turkeys together.
I had the same problem of finding suitable O-rings to fit ball-bearing patio door rollers from Lowes, ordered suitable material from MSI and made enough of the things to last a lifetime of rodwrapping - ordered too much and shared the O-ring material with a couple of other builders that had this particular dillema. There's not much to making O-rings from scratch. Stan Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 04/22/2006 12:02AM by Stan Gregory. Re: 2 part question

True Oil Rocks, especially on Burl Cork. Really deepens the pattern and brings it out! The idler pulleys from Herbach that Carrington posted above ar great. Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
