I have a newby type of question! Why is it that all rod blanks seem to be colored spruce green or matte gray? Is there a logical reason for this? I'd sure like to work on a decent brown or blue blank.

You haven't been spreading your net far enough. Batson products come in green, brown, blue. Tiger Eye/Sevier is a beautiful brown. Lamiglas comes in multiple colors depending on the blank series, and they also custom color blanks, saw some beautiful red surf blanks there over last weekend. Sage comes in different colors depending on series. Shikari SHIII is a brown blank. GUSA comes in many colors.

Bruce,
You need to look around at various companies. There are numerous colors available. I would go so far as to say that there are as many or more blue, brown, gloss blanks as there are spruce green.
They're out there, you just have to look for them

forecast is a nice dark glossy blue. very inexpensive.

tiger eye is very unique brown, shifting between a rich warm medium and dark brown with hint of golden colors. just a notch above forecast (batson's RX6) in both price and quality.

Bruce - Getting some hard copies of various Manufacturers or Vendors / Suppliers Catalogs may help your search for colored rod blanks (and other parts) from becoming a dizzying attempt to click thru handfuls of web-pages. ...

Just go the the RBO Sponsor Links at LEFT and start picking Sponsor Links and see how they catch your fancy. Bookmark & click "Catalog Request". You will soon have enough choices to start a rod-building consulting & referral service. And the rate of learning will multiply very quickly, ... Ask me how I know, ... " 'cause Putter told me so, ... " ... LOL !!! ...

And may I add that while they may not have every color in the rainbow in rod blanks, BATSON's RAINSHADOW ROD BLANKS & FORECAST GUIDES & COMPONENTS offer EXCELLENT QUALITY and SUPERIOR VALUE for your rod-building choices. And the new CHAMELEON Guides and the other Zirconium RIngs will cover most any color combination of black, blue, silver & gold out there. .

And Robert Tignor at FISHSTICKS4U is a FULL-LINE BATSON Dealer who has it all, with service & prices that can't be beat.

Happy Passover, -Cliff Hall+++, Gainesville, FL-USA*****
