i have heard alot of this rod blank. does anyone know where i could get a pair?

The Snyder blank you are inquiring about is and Australian blank manufacturer called Snyderglas. They produce many different styles of blanks here in Australia. I don't know of any retail outlets in the US. You can check out some of their range on my website that I keep.

Snyder Glas is one of only two blank manufactures who still build blanks in australia the other is Pacific Composites. Snyder Glas is owned by American Dick Snyder who was one of the founders of the Lamiglas company and was one of the design pioneers of the first tubular fiberglass rods 60 years ago. I would try The RodWorks who is a sponsor one the left but you will need a model number.

Jason, I may be the only guy on here with a Snyder Glas rod. I didn't build it myself -- I bought it ready-made, to got to go along with an Alvey reel I had. Alvey and Snyder have had a fairly long relationship, and the Snyder was one of the few pre-made rods that's designed to mate to Alvey reels.

I bought it before I got into building rods, and though my days of buying pre-made rods (factory or custom) are over, I have to say that the rod is very well put together, and I still use it sometimes, and enjoy its performance.

And the blank they used is interesting. I don't know anything at all about the technical stuff involved with blank manufacturing, but the blank is very light but strong, and seems to be comprised of a series of ridges or rings that are connected by some kind of connective tissue -- sorry if my lack of technical knowledge makes the description incomprehensible -- and looks different than the normal flat black finish on most blanks. The look is sort of like a dryer vent hose -- the kind with metal rings and with plastic wrapped over them.

Go to the Alvey USA website (alveyusa.com); they have a few pre-built Snyder rods for sale there. Click on the contact link, and email the US distributor to see if he can get you a Snyder blank. Gene Brandner (the US distributor for Alvey/Snyder) is a good guy, and might be able to help you out. You can probably order the blanks from Australia, but you're going to have to pay an arm and a leg for shipping, and deal with the headache of US customs, and Gene may be able to save you that.
