Would this be a Tom Kirkman piece (author)?
The article uses a very diferent approach. I would like to try it. Rotating by hand applying the apoxy and trying to have the application complete in 2-3 rotations. Should I apply the apoxy, to be consistant ,beginning each wrap with the foot up or down or at 90degs? The reason Im asking this is Im thinking I should let the blank first set with the foot in the up position - then when its time - rotate 180. Am I over thinking this? 2 hours of sagging and rotating seems like a long time but if this works its a small price to pay. I understand how this works with out a guide foot to deal ,considering butt wraps only, but the concept gets less clear because the blank and foot dont make a cylinder for the apoxy to flow about. Do it just like the article mentions and you'll be fine. You can start where ever you want, up or down, but I recommend that you always position the rod with the guides either straight up or straight down. Always spin 180 degrees.
Do keep in mind that just as the article says, you can also get a great finish with a power or mechanical dryer/rotator as well. The key still goes back to applying the correct amount of epoxy. Too much is the cause of many a problem with wrap finish. ............. Re: Vol 9 Issue 1 A Better Apoxy Finish - Author ???

Im going to try it in the morning.
Great mag. My first issue was a birthday present and my wife had just came in from the mail box as I finished wrapping the last guide and I saw the article. Have more questions about the guide sizes. latter I cant imagine how you handle all the info you manage. Do you sleep? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/08/2006 10:22PM by Tom Danielson. Tom Danielson: As far as I have noticed in the last 2+ years of RMM that I have on hand, any comments or articles that are NOT explicitly attributed to another person or Author were penned by Tom Kirkman himself. And since he is in the general habit of giving credit to others when due, that seems to be a safe assumption about future RMM Issues as well. If no Author is specified, Tom Kirkman wrote it. -Cliff Hall+++ Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
