Flexcoat on wood ?

Has anyone on this site used flexcoat or any other two part epoxy to finish their wood handles or reel seats ? I have been useing the 7-10 coat varnish and light sanding between coats for great results (mirror like finish). But this process is quite time consuming. It can take up to a couple of weeks with this process.I don`t use polyurethane because some of the woods I work with have a high acidic content and will not allow this type finish to dry properly.
I`m looking to speed up my wood finish process.
Thanks
Bill

I've done this many times early on. There are pros and cons. It will set but looks thick and heavy, as if the wood has a plastic coating on it. If you like this look, it might be something for you to try.

The downside is that epoxy is not nearly as hard or scratch resistant as most of the urethane coatings.

I will toss this out - on woods with a high resin content, give them an alcohol bath. Soak the wood piece in a container of solvent (denatured) alcohol for several hours. Empty and repeat for another few hours. Remove the wood piece and allow it to dry complete. At this point, you can apply most any top coat with good results. Don't worry if the wood color lightens a bit after you remove it from the "bath." That's the result of the resin coming out. The finish will restore the wood's normal color to a great extent.

Epoxy works great as a primer coat on wood. I use System Three Clear Coat and put on a thin coat. After it is completely cured I sand it smooth down to 1000 grit and top coat with Tru-Oil. You get the benifit of a glass smooth surface without the thick look of epoxy. If you want a satin look skip the Tru-Oil sand your epoxy and use 0000 steel wool and maybe some rotten stone to give it a sheen.

You can also use CA as a finish. Start to finish takes me about 15-20 minutes.
