I have been trying to figure out a wrapping technique for a few weeks now, I hope somebody out there can point me in the right direction.

An excellent example of the technique can be found on the photo board by Al Ciner - it is called Bill V's Soaring Eagle. I have also seen the technique in Dale Clemons book Custom Thread Art although I can't seem to find a description of it of how it is done. My best description would be calling it an inlay. For example, on Soaring Eagle the eagle appears to be overlaid on the Chevron. It creates a very interesting effect and I would like to work with it.

Could somebody give me an idea or point me towards a resources that would help me understand the technique.

Are you needing references for creating the eagle design, or the shaded chevron, or the entire pattern?

I am familiar with both of the indivdual designs but not on how to combine them with the inlay style result.

I believe that is Billy Vivona's variation of the Thunderbird wrap. In any case, Billy designed it. You might want to e-mail Billy or Al direct. They are both very helpful guys,
BTW, it's a single wrap, not a weave.

Billy's pattern is just a variation of the pattern in the Clemmens CRTA.
The head of the eagle/thunderbird done by Al is a bit larger and is a
split diamond enstead of being solid as in CRTA. Instead of the
background being a solid color as in CRTA different colors are used
to create the shading. If you follow the instructions in CRTA for a practice
wrap you will quickly realize just how Billy tweeked it to come up with his
variation. Do you have the CRTA book? If not, Call me anytime between
now and Sunday night and I will try and talk you thru how to lay-out the
beginning threads and to complete the pattern. Hard to type what you need
to know. Better to speak to you directly.

The soaring eagle pattern is one of the patterns in Billy's book. Best thing I can suggest is e-mailing Billy to see if he's got anymore copies. There's some awesome patterns in the book that he spent time and energy developing. Well worth the price, not only for the patterns, but also the insight into spacing and layout.
