Currently in the process of building a bottom/trolling rod targeting strippers and blues, on a Lamiglas CGBT841M 7' 30# class Tri-Flex blank. I had planned to use Fuji MNSG guides spiral wrapped utilizing a bumper guide. Guides wrapped with "A" nylon.

Looking for opinions or suggestions regarding the use on my selection of guide type/style. Should these guides be adaquate, or should I go in another direction? In addition, any comments on the bumper style of spiral wrap for this purpose would be appreciated.

The Simple Spiral Bumper should work at least as well as anything else (if not better) and would very simple to set up. Guide type you specify is probably okay. Once you locate the guides under the rod, you generally don't need to use quite as heavy a model as you would otherwise.

Question about the 180 guides on a 30# saltwater rod. Would the SG or LSG single foots hold up or would you be better off going with something like the LBSG?

Jay, on that specific blank the single foot fly guides offer NO benefit whatsoever. The LB's are heavier compared to the MN or LN's, so no real benefit to using those either.

The single foots will hold up just fine on fish, but they will not hold up when the rod gets banged around while fishing, transporting the rod, or some other mysterious way. If it were a lighter blank/application, you could deal with having to replace a guide here and there, but for what he's doing there is no need whatsoever for them.

Stan, I recently wrapped a BT963M trimmed to 7ft for wire line trolling tube and worm. I used SIN II's because of the wire and wrapped it bumper style, just enough bump to keep the wire off the blank. I think this set up will be perfect for this type of trolling. If I were to be using lead core, I'd probablly use the MNSG's.

Thanks guys, The reel on this rod is a Quantum saltwater CLW20PTS spooled with 30# braided. As Billy noted, I expect this rod to get some pretty good use, that is why I was concerned about the guide type and style. Knowing the owner of this rod, he will probaly try to pull lobster pots if he gets hung up on one. But rest assured I will clue him in before hand.

Also, vfor the bumber guide I have used the single foot LBSG #8-#10 wto rods upt 60# with no ill effects
"A" thread should be fine, remember there are more thread per mm than "C" or "D" sized threads.
