Have buildt 4 conventional rodsv from 12wt fly blanks, Rods are used for live bait for striped bass. Now interested in 10wt blank with the intentention to cut 2" for the tip. how close to 12wt would this make the 10wt. Also considering shortening the butt 3-4". What would both of these do to blank.. Thanks for any information-Bill Re: 10wt fly blank

It would stiffen and slow the tip up, and the power would stay the same or drop some. Possibility, a slower and lighter powered rod. Re: 10wt fly blank

Bill,
The Common Cents System (CCS) is a great method for finding the procise answer to your question. Just look up the way to measure a blank for the CCS and attach the plastic bag for pennies at the point on the blank where you plan to have your tip. The results will be accurate and comprehensive. If you are not familiar with the CCS just refer to the second from top link on the left margin. Take your time studying it. The explaination is thorough. If specific parts dont make sense ou can run a search on the Forum or ask for assistance here. We here on Rodbuilding.org are privileged to have this information at our disposal. It seems a shame for it to be right at our fingertips and yet used by so few. Dave Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
