CC and trimming a blank

I am considering trimming the tip and butt of a 2 pc fly blank by an inch or inch and a half. Before I trim, I would like to hang my bag of pennies and wire marker from the spot where I would trim to get an AA and ERN.

Would this give a good ballpark CC measurement, or should I subtract the weight of 1 penny to compensate for weight of the tip section that would be removed?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

The difference between a blank and fly rod with guides is typically on the order of 0.1-0.2 ERN (i.e., 1 penny or less). So, no, I wouldn't make any correction to account for the weight of 1" of blank that would be removed.

The length of the blank have no bearing in the measurements, except for the amount of droop. If you blank is level when you start everything will be the same in the results.

Ladd,

You're dead on. Hang the bag where you intend the cut and that will allow you to compare against the readings for the entire length rod.
