I'm looking to do an inlay of jungle cock feathers radiating out from a signature sticker (Decal Connection) and have a question on the steps. I haven't done jungle cock feathers before (yes I have the backissues of Rod Builder) but I have been reading up on it. I'm planing of doing the following and would like suggestions.
1) Apply a coat of Rod Varnish (#822) to the blank (I really don't want to underwrap). 2) Soak feathers one at a time in diluted Color Lock 2 and apply to blank, let dry. 3) Apply full coat of Color Lock 2 and let dry 24 hours. 4) Apply Rod Varnish (#822), one or two coats 5) Apply water slide decal, let dry. 6) Apply a few more coats of Rod Varnish and I'm done. Will the above work or is there a better way. Thanks Re: feather inlay and decals - what order?

Do you have good cock feathers? no splits? if not try some super-glue on the back of
the feather before doing the inlay. See: [www.rodbuilding.org] If you want the feathers to show above the decal the decal must be applied first and if you lay the feathers first I recommend to wait on the decal until after the first coat of finish is applied and set. This will give the decal a nice smooth resting place. Do a practice run on a scrap blank! Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Like Raymondd, I would definately do the decal first and put a coat of finish on first! Not really that familiar with 822. Any reason that you're using that instead of 2 part finish? I'm probably wrong, but I don't know if you'd get enought build up with it

The feathers and decal will basically be in the same plane; figure feathers radiating out from the space between the name and the rod details written on one line. Thanks for the input. Will feathes lay good on a finish base or does it really need a background wrap? Re: feather inlay and decals - what order?

Feathers will lay fine on a finish base, Steve. Experiment with the decal/feather thing. Might find just the right look... Putter Williston, ND Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
