I got side tracked after my first coat of FC. Is there anything special I should do prior to putting on the second coat?
Thanks, rhr Re: It has been a week between FC coats...any problems

nope, but if you're worried, scuff it slightly with 600-1500 (your choice) grit wet/dry paper

You better scoff them with at least a fine scoff pad or you may get pealing later on. It is hard now and the sanding gets the two coats to stick to each other. Re: It has been a week between FC coats...any problems

I would definatel scuff to ensure a good bond between the coats to prevent possible delamination! Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: It has been a week between FC coats...any problems

Don't you mean Adhesion ? de·lam·i·na·tion NOUN: 1. The act of splitting or separating a laminate into layers. Re: It has been a week between FC coats...any problems

Bill, Nope! Not trying to prevent adhesion! Trying to promote it. Trying to PREVENT the two layers from separating or "peeling" Delamination!! Cafeful with scuffing up the finish. If you do it too much it will cloud the view to the threads.

Rob,Have you had this clouding happen to you??I`m curious because I`ve scuffed up epoxy pretty good and never had a problem unless I hit the threads. Freddwhy (Rapt-Ryte) Re: It has been a week between FC coats...any problems

Rob
if you wash it with alcohol you may be getting a film from the alcohol. Just sand and wipe with a clean cloth or paper towel. Re: It has been a week between FC coats...any problems

Yeah, I tried to get the finish level. The sand paper marks did haze the finish. There have been sometimes that light sanding was ok. I am also thinking that the finish wasn't hard enough before I started sanding.

Thanks everyone for the input. I just finished lightly sanding with 600 W/D. Time to go mix some FC and finish this rod.
