I've only been building rods for a short time and do it completely for recreation. I am looking for the children's colored rod blanks, that I'm guessing are probably around 4'-0" - 4'-6". I want to build a custom rod for my cousin's son, will be his first rod. Its not so much as to the "custom" portion, more of a significant factor. Please let me know of a company that supplies such items. Thanks in advance!!

There are more colors around now than there used to be, but you may have to paint one to get the exact color you want. Try searching or emailing a few of the sponsors to see what they have in discontinued or overstock blanks. You should be able to get something suitable that is very inexpensive.

When you are looking for the blank, keep in mind that 4'-6" happens to be the length of the tip section of an average 9' two-piece fly rod. You can then use the bottom section to make reamers or practicing guide wraps etc. Re: Kid's Blanks

Rainshadow E glass SPG601, 720 and 721 all make good lite spinning rods and are good values. If black is not the desired color, paint it using the technique Ken Preston shared at the show. It works very well. I like to use phenolic blanks for children's rods as they are very tough.
