steel wooling threadmaster or polishing blank?

I have a rod that I am finishing tonight, in fact, it's rotating as I type this. The blank was a steal, but looks like it has been around the block a few times. ...lol The nice, shiny Threadmaster looks out of place on such a blue collar blank.
Is there any reason (functionally) that I shouldn't or couldn't use #0000 steel wool to dull the finish down? Or, would it be better to try to spruce up the blank a little? It's a matte blanks but has tons of rubbed areas... it actually looks pretty crappy but is functionally perfect as far as I can tell. I don't care if this finished rods looks like it's older and used but it's not uniform with the new Threadmaster. Any suggestions? Thanks! Keith Re: steel wooling threadmaster or polishing blank?

I would use a coat of perma gloss. It would make it shine abit more than it does now. Re: steel wooling threadmaster or polishing blank?

.I would suggest staying away from the steel wool.
Some times minute pieces can lodge in the finish or around the area were guide leg meets blank. They will alter rust a time and start discoloring your rod finish. I would use scotch bright pads, fine grit. I would also wait a few days maybe even two weeks before sanding to allow the epoxy to really cure out. If you sand it to soon finish may gum up a little or dig to deep into the finish leaving noticeable scratches Re: steel wooling threadmaster or polishing blank?

In a perfect world, I'd rather make the blank look better not the finish worse but don't have any idea what to do to the blank... thought about a coat of wax but until it has a uniform look, that won't fix the problem.
Thanks! Re: steel wooling threadmaster or polishing blank?

yeah man...scotchbrite...the grey scotchbrite pads. Sometimes I get these blanks from AllStar called re-buffs. They are blanks where the finish didn't come out right, and they have buffed it offf. The blank is all splotchy looking. All little scotchbrite action clears it right up....looks like the CTS P2000 natural matte finish when you're done.
