Which CP?

I was using FlexCoat color preserver with good results except for some blushing. Because of that I just used some Gudebrod CP but even with 2 coats the garnet thread became quite translucent. Which CP do you guys use with best results?

Thanks,
David

I have stopped using both FC and 811 in favor of Glass Coat CP. It's easier to apply than the 811, and I get nice results with it.

David, Was the thread translucent AFTER the Gudebrod (811?) completely dried?? It usually goes translucent while wet but changes back to normal when completely dry. I have never seen that happen!

Mike, yes the CP had dried for 2 days (1 day for each coat). The wraps almost look as though I didn't use CP at all.

The color of thread will make a difference. I've had that happen with Tan thread.

I've used both the Flex-Coat and Gudebrod 811 and unless user error
was involved I have always had good results with both.

That being said, I prefer the Gudebrod. I don't have to worry about the
white haze as it is clear wet or dry.

When I use CP, I use nothing but Gudebrod 811 and have wrapped several rods with garnet thread and never had that happen. You're sure what you got was 811 and not their one part finish? The two bottles look identical except for the label and the contents look basically the same. Did you thin it?

I use Gudebrod 811 all the time and love it, always getting good results. In fact, I dilute it greater than 50% with isopropyl alcohol and apply 2 coats, but in testing, one such coat does the trick. Never had a failure, and would not ever again use FC CP due to that white haze problem (brightens your thread a bit). Got a bad bottle?

I like the 911. I put a wet coat on let the thread soak it up and then put another. Let it dry overnight.

U-40 Color lock works well. Follow the directions and you will have good results.
Most CP's will if they are fresh and directions are followed.
Blushing and blotches can result from the threads not being packed well and/or tension problems.

I like using Gudebrod 811 but as soon as Andy Dear (Lamar Fishing on the sponsor list) starts selling his new CP I pan to switch to it. The preliminary reviews are very positive. Just as ThreadMaster is a major advancement for finishes I expect great things form the new CP. Andy does not blow smoke. When he says he has a superior pruduct I pay attention.

Gerry, it is definitely Gudebrod 811, not their finish. This is the first rod I used ThreadMaster on though, maybe I should wait for Andy's CP. I'm getting ready to do a Matrix blank with purple & gold wraps and I want to make sure I don't have any problems with it.
