Is there any problems with using HT metallic as an underwrap? I want to match the metallic color with my reel seet?
Or would I be better off making a flase underwrap with it?? thanks Ralph Re: Guides and HT Metallic

It will work well, I also try to match the guide frame color also to give the rod a complete thought out theme look. Pack tightly on the under wrap, and burnish well. I find it easier to over wrap up the guide foot when I underwrap in the opposite direction, but I also use "A" over "A" thread, whereas size "B" or "D" overwraps and covers like paint, but still needs to be packed regularly. You don't really need the under wraps the way the blanks are made now a days so its a lot of extra work when false under wraps will do just fine for what your trying to accomplish. Ralph,
Depending upon the type of blank under warps can add significantly to the weight of each guide wrap. False under wraps do as well because the added epoxy adds more weight than the added thread. If it is a rod that will not be used to cast with or does not require high efficiency, like a boat rod, I would not worry about it. However, if it is a rod that will be used to cast the under wraps can significantly lower the performance of the rod. There is an article about this in a past issue of RodMaker. If it is a rod that you will be using to cast with and you really want to add the under wraps for cosmetic reasons then I would try to keep the wraps as short as possible, use as light a weight guides as possible and not use any more epoxy on the guides than is absolutely necessary. If it is a rod that will not be used to cast with then go for it. The metallic under wraps can create some really attractive wraps. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
