Aviars, I used a cascade 12/13 blank. Not any flex in the bottom half. Med to fast taper in the upper half. Hard to think that any one would fly cast this blank for any amount of time.Believe Fishsticks4u offer a 12wt blank resonably. if i didn't make these others i would consider thiers. I would definitely add an extra guide. I have 1 guide in the lower half and 10 plus tip in upper half. each blank flexes diff. and more is better. I'm more of a bait fisherman but have thrown large A bombers and 1-1/2 buck tails with this blank .I use abu-6500 on casting blanks and old penn 710 with spinning blank. Probably haven't answered you post well. If you want guide size and spacing of course that will depend on blank you buy. This rod handled a 27lb striper in Jan without a problem. I' sure that you have more ? Feel free to get back. Hope I can help--Bill

Cheers,

Look under the Rainshadow line up for the 12/13 and this blank would be pretty close to the one Bill described

Rolly is right. Sorry I didn't point you to Rainshadow. Hit fishsticks4u-then blanks then rx7fly{if series} The olive green is discounted 30%. The blank is if9012g. Has 6.5 tip which is the same as mine. I think these blanks may be alittle lighter. But I wouldn't let that be a problem. I use 15 Berklley big game line on these rods. What type of fishing will you be doing with this rod? Also landed a blue cat that had to be 50-60lbs. Have ti eat dinner. Get back with more questions. Tie good knots- Bill

Thanx to all taking part in this thread!

target species are mainly northerns (pikes) up to 10-12 lbs.
Lures: spoons, cranks, medium/ to large spinners.

Actually this would be my "daily" rod. We here (Latvia) are used to guite long ones even from the boat.

Cheers,

A

Aivars. Guides for rod are as follows,1size 16,1-12,2-10.3-8,4-7 plus tip which was 6,5. You may want to adjust accordingly with the tip size. I underwrapped each with size A thread and over wrapped with D. May be alittle over kill but they came out ok. Make sure that you wrap the female part of ferrule atleast 1-1/2". Alot of stress here and that part will split. It is also ok if a guide falls on that ferrule and wrap as normal. Guide spacing will depend on rod action that you choose. Feel free if you have any other questions. Good luck-Bill
