I am toying with the idea of using custom machined nylon schims for a stand-up rod in the reel seat and was worried about the nylon possibly being too unforgiving and possibly causing a catastrophic failure of the rod. I chose to do this as I'm having the butt custom machined to my body measurements. I was hoping somebody with more materials experience would be able to advise me on this. Also, are the @#$%& spiral rollers covered by the same guarantee as the traitional rollers by the same company? Thanks in advance! Re: standup rod Q&A

Are talking about for shimming the reel seat? You'll most likely be okay. The rod doesn't flex that much down that low and even with a softer shim or arbor, the seat will act somewhat as a rigid bridge in that area. I'd stick with something rigid, but as light as possible.
There was a very detailed and comprehensive article on Stand-Up rods in the Volume 5 #6 issue of RodMaker. ................ Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
