I did a diamond wrap without a underwrap so i would have an exposed blank. I didnt test the blank for a breakfree condition and when finishing the apoxy was repelled. It grabbed the thread just fine. I surely didnt want to 3-m before I wrapped as I wanted the blank unblemished.
Would this have been a situation for acetone or 99% alchol?
I ended up wipeing the apoxy while still wet with a lint free cloth removing the apoxy from the blank surface and all but what had initially pentrated the thread wrap,let it dry and then used a very fine brush and applied very carefully 3 coats of polyurathane to the bands of the wrap. It looks very nice but what could I have done to get the apoxy to grip the blank.

sounds like my problem of silicone on the blank.. (my wife sprayed the stuff everyware :(((((()

try wiping it down with acetone before you wrap next time then if you need to "polish "the rod after wrapping finishing then do so but "degrease/desilicone" the blank first as a matter of practice

When you take the blank out of the package, you want to clean it with alcohol. Before doing your wrap, you could have used Scotchbrite to degloss the surface. It would not have blemished the blank - the finish would wet the surface better and the resulting surface would have been perfectly clear. Scotchbrite will not mar your blank's surface, only de glossed it.

Allen went through a tuff time, with silicone. Be careful as to whoever sprays whatever in your work area.
------> BE Careful !!! ACETONE IS VERY POWERFULL, alcohol might be a better choice. Test the blank before you put the grips on, since this area will be completely covered.

As a rule I wipe the blank with Denatured when I receive it, again before I begin work with it, each area I prep, and during the guide wrapping process. Alcohol is cheap insurance!

The wetting of the surface with 3-m as you said Tom will de-gloss the surface I unserstand but will the shine return after the apoxy application?
