I am looking for the best moderate fast to fast action, 7' 6" to 8' 6", 4 weight blanks. I would rather have 3 or 4 sections. What are my best options under about $150? I am considering the SCIV, Dan Craft FTL with a dropped section, RX7+, and RX8, and Hook and Hackle HHX. ANy other choices?

Thanks,

AB

I have been really impressed by any Lamiglas Appalachian rod I've fished. Check ot the ET 904 3 piece.

If you're willing to go to 8'6", give Dan Craft a call and talk to him about how you plan to fish this rod. I purchased his 863-4 FT blank and fish it exclusively with a DT 4wt floating line. This rod is fished on medium sized trout streams casting fairly large dry flies and some weighted nymphs. The 863-4 as plenty of power to handle a four weight line - IMHO - and is a fast action rod.

kind of on the low end of what's been mentioned but i kind of like the tiger eyes. i have two 7'-6" 3/4 4 piece blanks awaiting my attention.

(addendum).... and of course i love my dan craft sig V 8'-4", but those CTS blanks are sounding more interesting all the time.

Go with the Dan Craft 8'4" Sig V. It is a rod everyone should in their 8' 4 wt arsenal. You will not regret it.

All above are good recommendations. I built the St. Croix 4F804.4 not long ago and it is a very sweet rod. ERN was 5.05 I think so it has pretty ample power. Soft tip, light and crisp. The 4F793.4 is a real gem, not as fast as the 804.4, but I don't know how much power you like for your 4wts. I think it was 3.2 ERN or so, which is plenty I think if you usually fish close.

Dave Boyle hit the nail on the head ............The 8' sig V would be my first choice for that price range . John

The only problem is the lack of available blanks as Dan does have thm anymore and it doesn't look like they are coming back.
