I am about to put my reel seat on my first rod and have a question. I have it fitted to the blank just fine but am wondering about positioning. Do I want the insert to sit flush with the butt end of the blank, or do I want the blank to stick out from the insert a bit so that it sits flush with the butt cap? If the first way is correct do I fill that empty space with epoxy? Re: Reel seat question

Never fill empty spaces with epoxy - that does nothing but add weight. Assemble the seat and then mount it on the blank. Most folks will position it so that the butt end is nearly even with the end of the seat, not the insert. That way it will remain close to the length of the original blank and will fit in most standard sized tubes.

Makes perfect sense, I want a nine foot rod not a nine foot one inch rod. Thanks Tom Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
