Better Epoxy Finish article in latest RodMaker Mag.

I found this article so interesting that I just had to try this process out right away. I was testing a wrap of Old Gold, no CP, on a black matte finish GL3 blank - WOW! And I even applied it with a spatula! I had used Old Gold on a Sage XP ( to get the factory look) and since I used a brush back then, my wraps always turn out a bit blotchy since I think the wraps soaked up the first thin coat of finish unevenly. But by putting a far amount on quickly, roatating 180 degrees and wicking off the excess at the bottom, this color wrap came out evenly soaked and perfectly level. Actually, this color wrap with some gold trim bands on a matte black blank with Andy's Laguna Burl is a perfect match. Thanks to whoever wrote the article.

I wrote it and I'm glad you found it helpful. I tend to think that most of our epoxy problems are due to poor application technique rather than any bad characteristics of the epoxy itself. With epoxy, less is usually more. Apply less and do less. It knows what to do, you just have to let it.

I don't like seeing my name in print and usually just leave my name off many of the regular column articles I write. That's probably not a good idea, since many want to know who's work they're reading. I'll try to remember to put it in there in the future.
