I just inherited a Sage rod with the following inscription.
Graphite II B1290GFLRP My guess is that it's a 12 weight 9' rod. It's never been used. Looks like it is a home made rod. A nice job. Ceramic stripping guides 2ea and all the rest are snake guides. Any idea on age, when discontinued, etc. would be much appreciated. Would this rod be able to handle large tarpon? Just found your site and am getting ready to build a Sage Xi2 8 weight 9' and find the discussion on guides very interesting. So any information on guides for this blank would sure be helpful. Thanks. Re: Sage Rod Questions

I built an RP in the mid-eighties, then a couple of years later built an RPL, so maybe the mid-late 80's.

Hey Ted,
Glad you found the site. Welcome. You already know my suggestion for the guides, but hopefully you'll get quite a few answers from all the guys here. This is a great resource! John Re: Sage Rod Questions

Thanks guys. Here is the reply I got from Sage. They were very fast in replying.
"The rod you have is a 12 weight 9' rod, and as you know, was built from a blank. The RP series was produced from 1983-1993. The RP was a fast action rod when produced, medium to medium-fast by today's standards. The 12 weight is fine for large tarpon." Re: Sage Rod Questions

Jeff, I was in my local fly shop today asking a question about this rod, b1290gflrp, and the clerk googled it. It is a total coincedence, but the person that contacted you about his rod said that he inherited it from his father. Well, I have the same rod, and I got it from my father as well. I was wondering if you may know something about it. My father's name is Cromwell Anderson. He was very big in the fly fishing scene in Miami. He was a past president of the rod and reel club and the former Met fishing tournement. I would be curious to know if you have any info on how this rod came to him.
Thank you. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
