Butt Guide in Spiral wrap ??

I've seen spiral wraps where the first ( butt ) guide is at 90deg to the reel. Is there a reason to not put the first at 0deg, straight with the reel ? That makes more sense, so the line would come onto the reel straighter. Especially with a non-levelwind reel.
What do you guys think ? Thanks...

I'd put it right up on the 0 degree axis. Some like to offset it for a variety of reasons but I can't see where it helps or makes anything work better. On the Revolver Rod, it's actually offset in the opposite direction of the spiral so that the line comes onto the reel from the guide edge, which creates a true 0 degree oncoming angle.

I'm interested in trying a spiral wrap on a bass rod. I did a search and found some valuable information.

My question - I saw the 2005 thread on the 'Colby/Kirkman' method. Did it ever come out anywhere but in the magazine?

thnx..gm

Gene,
The method you are talking about is called the Bumper wrap. Do a search back 6 months on bumper wrap and you will get a ton of info! Very effective and simple to set up!
