What is the difference between a trigger rod and a casting rod? I have noticed lately that manufacturers are changing the name from casting to trigger rods. Re: trigger vs casting

Probably just a name change. Many fishermen associate casting rod with bass rod and the manufacturers may want to emphasize that they can be used for many different types of fishing.

Also may be used for other styles fishing and not used to "cast"
Trolling, downrigger, sideplaner, live bait, etc. Best wishes, Ron Schneider Schneider's Rod Shop Mountain Home, Arkansas [www.schneidersrods.com] mtnron40@yahoo.com 870-424-3381 Re: trigger vs casting

I stand corrected if I am wrong!! In the NW when it comes to casting rods they usually have triggers. I believe the reason is when casting bait, when drift fishing. It is easer, to feel a bite by sliding your finger under the line, Some newer triggers have a open space under the reelseat. This under cut allows your finger to be in contact with the blank. Which will allow you to feel the slightest bite from of a Steelhead or Salmon.

If your using a small levelwind reel that you fish palmed in your hand, trigger reelseats are nice. When using a casting reel with no levelwind or a large levelwind where you do your fishing with your pole hand on the foregrip they serve no real purpose.
