When recnditioning a old blank an its been stripped to the bare rod and you want to reestablish the color what is the correct type paint to use. I have had a problem with a orange peel affect when I add my clear U 40 sealer. Re: Correct type paint

This is a subject that comes up from time to time. I used a spray paint that works on pvc plastics...worked just fine. Try a subject search, I know there are some really experienced people that use auto paints and such to great effect.

What do you mean by "clear U-40 sealer?"

I use Plasticote or Duplicolor auto paints for blanks, spraying them first with adhesion promotor as a primer. After the paint dries for a couple days I use the Tom Kirkman approuch of overcoating with Spar Urithane. Get perfect finishes every time. The key is to give the paint ample time to set and completely dry, then the Spar. Bill in WV Re: Correct type paint

You are going to have a hard time applying Permagloss over a coat of paint. It's too "hot" for many undercoatings to stand. Just tint the Permagloss the color you want and do it all in one step.

I agree Tom. The only thing is if you want a metallic finish on your rod, I'm not sure Testors or TAPP have metallic colors. Putter, am I right or wrong? I suppose you could add some ultra fine glitter to get the effect. Bill in WV Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/21/2006 11:22PM by William Bartlett. Re: Correct type paint

Testors has some great metallics, Just let the solids settle and pour off the solvents Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Correct type paint

The only thing I want to add, is that room and blank temp will also make a difference. A cold blank will cause an orange peel effect. So make sure the room temp is also with in the temp ranges spec'd by the paint manufacturer. Re: Correct type paint

Mr.kirkman what type of tint or type of paint is compatible with permagloss to do this with. If we need more conversation please contact me at my e-mail. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
