Renzetti 1/10 hp motor for drilling?

Hello All,

I am considering purchasing a Renzetti, but having no experience with lathes, I have a question:

Is the standard 1/10 hp motor enough to use the tail stock/chuck accessory for drilling arbors, cork, and small rings of wood, or would I need to purchase the turning motor?

Thanks,

Erik

The 1/10 HP is the bes all-around choice. You can wrap with it, turn with it and bore with it. But you do have to understand that this is a rod lathe, not a heavy duty wood lathe. Boring cork or softwoods is easy on this lathe, but for exotic hardwoods and the like, you'll need a different tool.

Tom,

Thank you, and I will definitely keep the limitations of the motor in mind!

The limitation is more the light duty lathe than it is the motor. Aluminum lathes aren't really designed for heavy wood or metal turning. Not enough mass.
