Fly Rod Tubes

I'm looking to bulk purchase Gold screw caps for making aluminum fly rod tubes. I would prefer is ones that slide inside the tube and have a rubber grommet.
Any suggestions on a supplier would be appreciated.

You could have them made by a machine shop, or try to purchase them from a company already making them. REC immediately comes to mind. Try contacting Alan via their website or talk to him in Charlotte at the National Rod Builders Show next week.

REC would be my first choice also. Their stuff is very well made and nicely machined. Next stop would be LandMark tubes out in Colorado. Their stuff is pretty good and they also have the caps you're looking for. Don't know if they will be in Charlotte, but you can probably google them up and get their contact info.

I've always founds this to be a deficiency in the rodbuilding supply market. Specifically, the ability of builders to make their own custom-sized rod tube by buying the tubes and end caps separately and cutting the tube down to the exact size needed. When building say a multi-piece travel rod, you would like the tube to be as short as possible. That is after all, the purpose of having a multi-piece rod. I've found that I have had to compromise when buying off-the-shelf tubes and used tubes that were several inches longer than they needed to be.

I only know of one supplier that sells tubes and end caps separately, but I find the prices to be commensurate with the pricing of bamboo rods, not to mention that a lot of additional work is required to finish the tube. Hopefully, someone will prove me wrong and point me to someone that supplies what I'm looking for!

Rob -
Maybe I'll have something of interest for you to look at in Charlotte - hexagonal "tubes" from red cedar that I'm thinking about making available to order (length / girth). That is assuming I can get past the problems I'm having getting a really nice fit & finish on the prototype.

Landmark sells tubes and caps separately. I buy the domed brass caps and bottoms and 4' lengths of tube, then cut to length myself as I need them.

Thanks John. I went to to Landmark's web site. Sounds like what I'm looking for. They had no prices listed. Do they sell direct?
