I'm looking for info to help with deciding on thread finish for my next rod. I have used LS Supreme for my last few but I'm thinking I might try out the Permagloss. I've used the Permagloss on the last few reel seats that I turned and was quite impressed. Conversely, I noticed the other day that some of my LS wraps have cracked!!! So ..
Does PG finish as well?
I'm assuming that it will finish as a low build (which I prefer).
Any suggestions as to the number of coats required with PG?
Does PG yellow over time?
Assuming that PG finishes harder, is it therefore unacceptably fragile on a rod?
Again assuming that it is harder, is it suitable for the high flex environement of a fly rod?
Is PG better or worse than LS in regards to the capillary action that I see from LS on single foot guides? As an aside, has anybody got any hints on how to prevent this buildup (other than the edge of a spatula every 15 minutes)?
Are there any cautionary notes for using PG with CP or does it penetrate just like LS?
And finally, has anybody discovered a good cure to the short shelf life (once opened) problem for PG?

PermaGloss is an excellent thread wrap coating. It's thin as water, clear and harder yet more flexible than any epoxy. You can adjust the depth by how many coats you apply. Usually 3 is about the minimum, with 6 or more required for a high build type look.

No, it does not look like epoxy. It doesn't ever get that glass smooth look. It's more of an eggshell surface, but extremely clear and bright. Very classy, but not at all like epoxy.
